Day 3 brought together a powerful synergy – construction re-generation and green infrastructure.
The Battersea Power Station and Canary Wharf developments are extraordinary examples of regeneration projects from dilapidated undervalued areas into high value estates where business and open public spaces co-exist.
In the morning session the students were hosted by Nicolo Bencini from Buro Happold Engineering, at the Phase 2 of the Battersea Project which will house the retail mall and new Apple HQ. Apart from the construction methodologies, the students could evidence the impeccable site management with special attention to housekeeping, H&S standards and effective site logistics.
The afternoon session, facilitated by Charles Saliba from the Malta Business Network, focused on green infrastructure. A tour of the Crossrail Place roof garden at Canary Wharf, was followed by a presentation from Emma Warden. Technical questions from the students were answered by Canary Wharf architects as well as Adolfo Harrison, a landscape architect from Cityscapes. After the presentation, Mrs. Chantal Sciberras, the Deputy High Commissioner for Malta, met the students in an informal get-together.
