The value of internships at iAS – a mutual positive experience
As part of its corporate social responsibility, iAS actively seeks to create internship opportunities both at the design office as well as on the number of construction sites that it manages. Over the past year, Isaac Zammit and Gaby Farrugia, both students at the University of Malta, who are reading for a Bachelor of Science in Built Environment Studies, first and third year respectively, have been engaged in this experience.
Isaac joined the Design team at the Mriehel Head Office and quickly developed his drawing and 3d-modelling skills with the aid of his mentors. Isaac was also exposed to the permitting process and site work thanks to his involvement in ongoing design projects.
On the other hand, Gaby joined the iAS Project Management team at Pendergardens, where she was responsible to report on the progress of finishing works as part of the run-up to the contractual handover deadlines.
At the moment, another student intern, Anne Aardenburg is undertaking her internship with a view to expand her technical knowledge. She is also reading for a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and Architecture. During this internship she aspires to broaden her experience working with BIM, using Revit and possibly be involved in preliminary design concepts and detailing. “Everyone is really helpful and involved, which I really appreciate”.
